Jim was born in 1952 on a dairy farm in Dakota Township, Waushara County, Wisconsin. He has been in the area most of his life except for 9 years he spent in western Montana living a lifelong dream. Growing up on a farm meant going to auctions with his father and Jim would sit and listen to the auctioneer as he sold item after item. From that point on, he knew that he wanted to be an auctioneer.
In 1982 that ambition became reality when, following a motorcycle accident that left him without speech, he defied doctors who said he would never talk again. A miracle recovery gave him his voice back overnight and he decided that it was time for auction school. Jim’s motto became “but for the grace of God go I,” and here he is today.
After graduating top of his class in 1982, Jim would find an auction barn and work for free just to get the “feel” of the real thing. Soon he was ready to create his own auction service, and that’s how American Auction was born.
Jim has conducted successful auctions in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Montana. In addition to being a licensed Auctioneer in Wisconsin, he is also a licensed real estate Broker working with Coldwell Banker, The Real Estate Group, in Wautoma. Jim believes that selling personal property and real property goes hand-in-hand. His love of people and his knowledge of the business have proven to be a winning combination.
